15%– it is the proportion of voting age residents who cast ballots in the 25 states that held primaries in the first six months of this year. В 15 of those states, the turnout was the lowest ever.

MIRA is engaged in a targeted voter registration drive to reach out to U.S. citizens in the immigrant communities across Mississippi. Naturalized citizens, youth and others born in the U.S. of immigrant families who will be 18 years of age by election day, Вторник, November 4th are eligible to vote in the coming national electionsonly if you are registered to vote at your current residential address. If you are already a registered voter but have moved to a different address, you will need to register again using your new address. The deadline to register is Friday, October 3rd.

MIRA is at churches with immigrant congregations setting up registration tables to register voters, and going to register voters at events where immigrant families are present.

In coalition with other organizations MIRA will be contacting the newly registered voters and others that are already registered to make sure they vote. MIRA needs volunteers throughout October leading to election day on November 4th for theget out the voteeffort. Can you help?

*A word of caution: anyone who is undocumented or is not a US Citizen should NOT try to register to vote as this can complicate future applications for legal residency or citizenship.*
