Each year at the end of the legislative session, the Mississippi Human Services Coalition analyses the work of legislators and their effect on the lives of Mississippi’s “ordinary” residents. Active for decades, the coalition is made up of human service organizations who meet weekly during the sessions to share information on proposals they care about. Together, this informal coalition of about 50 groups join together to fight for or against targeted proposals. MIRA has been an active part of this coalition for the 15 years it has existed. This coalition has helped MIRA enact legislation beneficial to immigrants and helped kill all anti-immigrant proposals, including all 10 bills during this session.

Prepared by the Coalition’s chairperson, Rev. Felgen Barber, the Report card tallies the outcome of selected bills and grades each legislator on her/his performance representing their constituents, from “A” to “F.” The “terrible ten” bills are not listed as they died in committees and not reported to the full legislature.

Please download and study the Report Card below and find out how your legislator voted on these issues. Act accordingly!
