MIRA’s New Digs
MIRA has a new office. We have moved from our office of 10 years at 612 N. State Street in downtown Jackson, up the street in to the northern Fondren area between Meadowbrook and North Side to 4436 North State Street, Suite A-1, Jackson. The old office, on the second floor of a deteriorating building, had increasing problems with the elevator and catastrophic roof leaks, resulting in ceiling cave-ins causing severe water damage to equipment, files, literature and office supplies. We found we were cohabiting with a family of rats. And we had also experienced multiple break-ins and thefts.
We are thankful for the hard work by volunteers including MIRA Board members, Can Yılmaz, and Mike Knezevich, along with MIRA members and allies Brenda Chambliss, Julio del Castillo, Dwight Utz, Sean Scott, and Paul Gore. Very special appreciation to Can Yılmaz, who worked on the move nearly every day for two months in preparing and helping with the physical work.
While the actual moving was done by MIRA staff and volunteers, the cost of moving computers, the telephone system, the security system, furniture replacements, shredding of some 35 boxes of old files, window blinds (since we are now in a first floor storefront, with floor to ceiling windows), paying rent on both the old and new offices at the same time, a cabinet sink, plumbing work, and a number of other lesser expenses, came to around $10,000. The move was urgent and these costs were not in our budget. We desperately need to raise money to cover these costs. Please help by sending a donation of $25 or more TODAY to MIRA, P.O. Box 1104, Jackson, MS 39215-1104; or click here to donate online.
