How anti-immigrant fervor harms domestic-violence victims

Less than a year into the Trump administration, immigrant survivors of domestic violence are facing a growing crisis in California and across the nation. As the administration pressures local governments to help deport millions of people, many survivors are declining to seek the help and support they need.

Across the state, reports have come in of survivors who have stopped calling domestic violence hotlines, withdrawn from programs, or are too fearful to go to court.

Concerning data has emerged showing a decrease in reports of sexual assault and domestic violence in Los Angeles’ Latinx community. (Latinx is a gender-neutral term for Latino/Latina.)
