Für Einwanderer, the road to U.S. citizenship has always been a long and difficult one. But things could be getting worse.

The average processing time for naturalization applications has almost doubled, from about five months in early 2016 to an average of almost nine months today, according to a report from the National Partnership With New Americans.

The wait has undermined people’s access to critical rights, John C. Yang, president and executive director of nonprofit Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, told HuffPost in an email.

Feds Threaten Jackson Funds Over Immigration ‘Sanctuary’ Policy

Die U.s. Department of Justice does not know the City of Jackson has a new mayor. In a letter addressed to Mayor Tony Yarber but dated Nov. 15, 2017, Acting Assistant Attorney General Alan Hanson asked the City of Jackson to review itssanctuary cityordinance in order to receive federal funds from the Office of Justice Programs going forward.

MIRA and Jackson officials respond to DOJ immigration laws accusation

The Capital City is in hot water with the U.S. Justice Department over federal immigration laws. Jackson received a letter demanding compliance, accusing them of immigration rule violations.
It is one of 29 jurisdictions being given just over two weeks to comply with immigration rules.
Thursday the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance held a news conference responding to the Justice Department demands.
Not only is it an overt attack on immigrants but it is a covert attack on the City of Jackson, said MIRA Executive Director Bill Chandler.

The Department of Justice sent letters to 29 jurisdictions that may have laws, policies, or practices that violate, a federal statute that promotes information sharing related to immigration enforcement.
