Undocumented and transgender, Karolina Lopez was held at an immigrant detention center near Tucson, Arizona, for three years while awaiting asylum. Originally from Acapulco, home to the highest murder rate in Mexico, Lopez came to the United States to escape discrimination from her family and community. She landed in a detention center after reporting a robbery to the police, who arrested her when they discovered her illegal status.

Rosedale Wants All In On Holding Illegal Aliens

Rosedale wants to get rid of the trash and hold on to illegal aliens. At this week’s city council meeting the top topic was removing trash from the old Amoco lot, with the Mayor promising the council to look for a place to permanently store the debris once it has been removed. Preventable deaths and on-the-job accidents kill nearly 5,000 people every year in the U.S. according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and a recent report issued by the AFL-CIO found another 50,000 a 60,000 died annually from diseases caused by workplace injury and exposure to dangerous environments.

Detained Mississippi immigrant released

A Mississippi immigrant who made national headlines when she was detained after speaking out a news conference has been released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.
Daniela Vargas, 22, was released Friday under an Order of Supervision from the LaSalle Detention Center in Jena, Louisiana, according to her attorney, Abby Peterson with Elmore & Peterson Law Firm.
“We want to see her, we want to lay eyes on her,” the firm’s Nathan Elmore said of Vargas.

Daniela Vargas, 22, who has been in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals immigration policy, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents Wednesday morning, and now could be deported without a hearing in two to three weeks, her attorney said.

Mississippi DREAMer Arrested after Press Conference

Moments after an immigrant spoke out about her fears of deportation, she was detained by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
Daniela Vargas, 22, was detained by ICE agents Wednesday morning, shortly after speaking at a news conference in downtown Jackson, according to her attorney, Abby Peterson.
The news conference was hosted by local immigration attorneys, churches and the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance to bring attention to families impacted by deportation.

Two arrested in Jackson immigration raid

Tears stream down the face of Danielle Vargas, after she says ICE agents raided her home, taking her father Daniel and her brother Allen away.
She says they entered their west Jackson home unannounced Wednesday, and turned everything upside down.
“I’ve been here for 17 years and this is the most scared I’ve ever been,” Vargas said, with her voice trembling. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I don’t know what happens in the next 30 minutes. I just want to see my Dad.”
