对于移民, the road to U.S. citizenship has always been a long and difficult one. But things could be getting worse.

The average processing time for naturalization applications has almost doubled, from about five months in early 2016 to an average of almost nine months today, according to a report from the National Partnership With New Americans.

The wait has undermined people’s access to critical rights, John C. Yang, president and executive director of nonprofit Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, told HuffPost in an email.

The Capital City is in hot water with the U.S. Justice Department over federal immigration laws. Jackson received a letter demanding compliance, accusing them of immigration rule violations.
It is one of 29 jurisdictions being given just over two weeks to comply with immigration rules.
Thursday the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance held a news conference responding to the Justice Department demands.
Not only is it an overt attack on immigrants but it is a covert attack on the City of Jackson, said MIRA Executive Director Bill Chandler.

In April, President Trump had a message for the 800,000 young undocumented immigrants who were given permission to live in the U.S. under President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program: “The dreamers,” he said, “should rest easy.”
We now know that was a lie. In September, Trump announced he was ending the DACA program in six months, plunging nearly a million young immigrants’ lives into chaos. But Trump’s assault on DACA recipients began much earlier than previously known.

Immigration is not just an issue at the borders, it is also an issue in Boston.
As more illegal immigrants are detained, some call it an immigration death sentence. A death sentence because they fear for their lives if they’re deported back to their countries.
One high profile case in Boston has become the example of the new changes in immigration enforcement.

Internal emails show ICE agents struggling to substantiate Trump’s lies about immigrants

As hundreds of undocumented immigrants were rounded up across the country last February in the first mass raids of the Trump administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials went out of their way to portray the people they detained as hardened criminals, instructing field offices to highlight the worst cases for the media and attempting to distract attention from the dozens of individuals who were apprehended despite having no criminal background at all.
