Immigrants in detention centers have not been charged with criminal offenses, but they are treated like criminals. Warehousing immigrants – including asylum-seekers who are fleeing violence and persecution in their native countries – in prison-like environments goes against any understanding of human dignity.
Слишком часто, guards use excessive force against detainees, and abusively place them into solitary confinement.

U.S. Департамент Национальной Безопаности (DHS) last month issued a notice that it is storing social media information on immigrants, including lawful permanent residents and naturalized U.S. citizens, apparently indefinitely, in a government database that contains “Alien Files” (A-Files). This is an invasive new feature of DHS’s previously known programs on collecting social media information.

Mention Nottingham in a conversation, and it’s pretty likely the first thing to come to mind is Robin Hood.
But the story being told here is very different from the fable of old.
Instead of stealing from the rich to give to the poor, students today who hope to get rich are flocking to this charming city two hours north of London.
Nottingham Business School – which is part of Nottingham Trent Universityhas seen a 25 percent uptick in interest from international students.

The Trump administration has never spoken with a coherent voice on immigration. Its immigration initiatives have been politically driven, some of them purely symbolic (the 2,000 mile wall), others unconstitutional (a “Muslim ban”), still others longstanding national priorities (“extreme vetting” and the deportation of violent criminals). What may ultimately distinguish the administration’s immigration approach, однако, is its apparent hostility to refugees and to “legal” immigrants; that is, other than the wealthy, highly credentialed elites that the president habitually attacks in other contexts.

Majorities of Americans strongly support two potential components of immigration legislation this fall, including deportation protections for younger undocumented immigrants and requiring employers to verify workers are in the United States legally, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The findings suggest that President Trump and Congress might have a path to a major deal on immigration reform that has eluded Washington for three decades. Trump has said he is open to compromise with Democrats on a bill that would provide legal status …

A privately-run detention center is exploiting immigrants by paying them a dollar a day, Washington State’s attorney general says.
Attorney General Bob Ferguson said Wednesday that he’s suing GEO Group, a private prison operator.
The suit alleges GEO Group uses immigration detainees to run “virtually all non-security functions” at its Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, Washington — all while paying them next to nothing. Detainee responsibilities range from cooking and cleaning to painting.

This evening, the Trump administration announced its new discriminatory Muslim and refugee ban, to include North Korea, Venezuela, and Muslim-majority Chad, and continues to include Iran, Libya, Syria, and Yemen. The degree of immigration restriction varies by individual country, including complete ban. This move by the administration represents an attempt to sanitize a discriminatory and illegal policy before it is reviewed by the Supreme Court on October 10.
